It can also help you bond with your baby.But as a new mom, you may need some time to get used to breastfeeding. And that’s OK. Be patient withyourself. These tips may also help make breastfeeding more comfortable for both you and your baby.If you have nipple or breast discomfort during nursing, check your baby’s latch or sucking position. A largearea of your breast, including the areola, should be in your baby’s mouth. If needed, detach your baby fromyour breast and try again.For sore or cracked nipples, your own breast milk may help. Express a little and gently rub it on. Or you canapply a dab of pure lanolin nipple cream.If your breasts are too full of milk, your baby may have trouble latching on. In this case, try … Taking a warmshower; Holding warm compresses on your breasts; Or manually expressing some milk to soften your breasts.During the first few weeks, your breasts may leak at times. Gently pressing on your nipple can help. Or useabsorbent breast pads to protect clothing. Change them when they are wet.In the first 6 months of life, your baby will have several growth spurts. During these times, they will feed moreoften, sometimes as much as every hour. Your body will respond by making more milk. Take care of yourselfby resting, eating well, and drinking lots of water.If at any time, you have the following symptoms, call your healthcare provider right away: Very sore breasts;Hot spots or red streaks on your breasts; Itchiness; Or a fever. These may be signs of an infection.Breastfeeding can be challenging at first. Keep in mind, your healthcare provider or lactation consultant is hereto help.Your partner, family members, and friends can also help with feedings.
