Dale: Heart Attack Survivor“It went from an odd feeling in my chest to pressure. It seemed like I had a 300-pound man standing in mychest, and then I had pain in my neck. It actually felt like someone was squeezing my neck.”“Well, once we got into the ER, different people, I guess the nurses or whoever, they came in. They onceagain, I guess, understood the vitals that the EMT had, and they did blood work. They instantly took someblood. They also did an EKG, and then, they gave me another nitroglycerin pill, and then I was kind of leftalone for maybe a few minutes. When they did come back, it was said that I was in the process, or I’ve had aheart attack.”“Once I did see the cardiologist, he checked my pulse, he checked the different vitals, and he said I was agood candidate to have a stint put in, and he would do it through my wrist.”“After my initial visit back to Dr. Cummings, he suggested that he felt I was a good candidate to do cardiacrehab, and that’s mainly doing exercise, watching your heart, your heart was being monitored, that type ofthing, and I jumped at the opportunity, because as I said, it was very intimidating not knowing how far youcould go after having a heart attack.”“Cardiac rehab really lets you know how far you can go. You’re put on different machines. You wear a heartmonitor. They push you to limits to see just how the heart functions going at different rates, and I think thatreally helped me to know that if I run up the steps or run down the steps, nothing would happen.”“I don’t think my life has changed that much. Just being really aware that I am a heart attack survivor, and Ishould be more cautious with some of things that I should do. Also, I think you want to do a little bit more. Notso much physically, but when you put off certain things, maybe now I’m going to do it. I’m not going to put offsomething because I’ve had a heart attack.
